We are organizing the 1st Meeting for women mathematicians in Portugal ( WM2). The meeting will take place in Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Universidade Nova de Lisboa between 22th and 24th of July 2019.

The principal goals of this meeting are to show at national and international level that it is possible to have a high standard conference with female speakers, to motivate and inspire new generations of women mathematicians, to discuss the gender gap situation when compared to other countries.

The WM2 meeting has the support of the European Women in mathematics (EWM) and also from the Portuguese Mathematical Society (SPM). In Portugal, as in many other countries, the top positions in the univesities, and also the invited speakers for national or international conferences happen to include very few women.

Also, the number of female undergraduate students doing PhD in Mathematics should still growth. We would like to encourage more of female students to do research in Mathematics. The conference will be an opportunity to share different experiences and help to develop a more supportive community that can inspire future women mathematicians.

In the WM2 meeting, beyond the plenary talks, will also have submitted talks, as well as a round-table discussion on the gender gap situation in Mathematics.
