Helena Ferreira Becerra has a degree and a Msc in Biomedical Engineering from the Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. She is currently working at NMT, SA, where she is engaged in research concerning the area of volatile compounds' analysis as a specialist in the analytical technique of Ion Mobility Spectrometry.

Mário de Sousa Diniz

Mário Emanuel Campos de Sousa Diniz obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in “Aquatic Sciences” from Institute of Biomedical Sciences - ICBAS, University of Porto, his MSc in “Ecology, Management and Modeling of Marine Resources” and his PhD in “Environmental Sciences” both from Faculty of Science and Technology (FCT-UNL), Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Currently he is an Assistant Researcher and a Research member of the Associate Laboratory REQUIMTE at Dept. Chemistry / CQFB-REQUIMTE at FCT-UNL and a Professor in the “Structural Biochemistry” course at FCT-UNL.

Joana Dias é licenciada em Ciências de Engenharia Biomédica pela Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Atualmente está a fazer a dissertação de mestrado em Engenharia Biomédica nesta mesma instituição, subordinada ao tema “Estudo dos Biomarcadores associados a doenças renais”.

Marta Ferraz is a scientist and inventor in the area of Biorobotics and Human Development. She is currently a Ph.D student in Digital Media in the UT Austin/Portugal program (International CoLab for emerging technologies), a researcher at the Center for Environmental and Sustainability Research (CENSE/FCT-UNL), and the founder of the enterprise BioBits. She holds a Master's degree in Child's Motor Development and a Postgraduate degree in Exercise and Health.

Hugo Alexandre Ferreira holds a medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon and a physics engineering degree from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) of the Technical University of Lisbon. He also holds a PhD degree in physics from IST, whereas his doctoral studies were done at INESC-Microsystems and Nanotechnologies and at the BioEngineering Research Group – IST. Additionally, he has a post-graduation in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management from the School of Business and Economics of the Portuguese Catholic University.

He is an Assistant Professor at the Physics Department of the Sciences and Technology Faculty of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa and member of CEFITEC. PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, Technical University of Lisbon, He is a founder and CEO of PLUX, a technology-based innovative startup in the field of systems and wireless medical sensors, where he currently coordinates a multidisciplinary team that covers microelectronics, biosignal processing and software development.

Inês Prata Machado received her MSc and BSc in Biomedical Engineering from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology at the New University of Lisbon, Portugal. Her master thesis, entitled "Human Activity Data Discovery based on Accelerometry", was done at Plux – Wireless Biosignals, in Lisbon in collaboration with Champalimaud Foundation. She started working on a quite challenging project that intended to establish a new methodology describing a human activity recognition framework based on feature extraction and feature selection techniques.

"I was born in Madrid, Spain. In 1996 I received my undergraduate degree in Theoretical Physics from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. I did my graduate studies in the same university and earned a PhD in 2000 for my work on models of associative memory and persistent neural activity in the laboratory of Néstor Parga. I then moved to Boston to do research on network mechanisms of spatial working memory and interval timing as a post-doctoral fellow in the laboratory of Xiao-Jing Wang, at Brandeis University.

Dário Rodrigues obtained his MSc and PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa in Portugal. During his PhD program, he was also a research scholar at Duke University implementing the design, development and testing of new hyperthermia and temperature monitoring techniques. Dário Rodrigues is currently a Postdoc at Thomas Jefferson University in the Radiation Oncology Department. His research interests include microwave imaging and microwave hyperthermia:
