TRAVEL

Travel to and within Lisbon

Lisbon is easy to get to. It is a short flight away from most European cities, and is just as easily accessible by road, railway or sea.
Lisbon International Airport (Portela Aeroporto), 7 km from the city centre, has daily flights to and from the major cities in Europe and the world. Major international airlines, including low cost companies (e.g., easyJet) fly to and from Lisbon.

To access the centre of Lisbon, from the airport, three options are available (more info at the Tourism Information Counter in the airport's Arrivals Hall):

Subway

In the airport, look for the subway station (Aeroporto) and take the red line. Lisbon underground railway provides an excellent transportation network to reach the main spots of the city (see the map below).

Buses

Aerobus. Makes the run between Lisbon Airport and the city centre. Service begins at 7:45 and ends at 20:15. Buses pass every 20 minutes. The ticket may be purchased from the driver, as you board the bus.

City bus. In the airport there are other town bus lines: 5, 22, 44, 45 and 83 to Lisbon.

Taxis

There are two taxi stands within the perimeter of the airport, one at arrivals and another at departures.

Travel from Lisbon to the workshop venue (FCT-UNL)

The campus is served by a wide transport network, including combined services (subway, bus, train, ferry) and by tram/metro, which terminus ("Universidade") is located along one of the FCT entrances.

Here are some suggestions, although there are other possibilities, combining public transportation.

From Aeroporto da Portela (Lisbon Airport)

Using public transportation

Bus. A special shuttle bus (Carris nº 91) takes passengers to Lisbon downtown in 20 minutes. This bus also stops at “Cais do Sodré” Train Station, next to the Ferry Station, where you can take a ferryboat to “Cacilhas” (about 12 min travel).

Subway. You can also get “Cais do Sodré” taking the red line then the green line (see the urban rail map). From “Terreiro do Paço” Train Station (blue line), you can catch a ferryboat to “Cacilhas”, too (about 10 min travel).

Once in “Cacilhas” (left bank of the Tagus River), two choices are possible:
1) You can take a tram/metro to “Universidade”, hopping off on its terminus (located near one of the campus entrances). This is the cheapest option.
2) You can also take one of the following TST buses: “Marisol”, “Fonte da Telha” or “Costa de Caparica – via Almada”. They all stop next to the FCT main entrance.

By taxi

There are always plenty of taxis at the Arrivals and Departures Halls. All the taxis have meters, a ride to FCT/UNL costs approximately €30, depending on the traffic. During weekends, nights, and holidays there is a 20% surcharge.
