ICAD History

The International Conference on Axiomatic Design (ICAD) series is the traditional meeting point of the worldwide Axiomatic Design Community since 2000. Since its first edition, ICAD conferences have been held in Cambridge and Worcester (MA-USA), Seoul and Daejeon (Korea), Lisbon (Portugal), Florence (Italy), Xi’an (China), Iasi (Romania), and Sydney (Australia).

Now it comes back to Lisbon (Portugal) for the third time!

Professor Nam P. Suh developed axiomatic Design at the MIT’s Department of Mechanical Engineering by the end of the 1970s. Axiomatic Design (AD) can be applied to the design of products, processes, projects, systems. AD is an engineering theory that systematically translate the customer needs into functional requirements, design parameters, and process variables. It has been called one of the most important engineering developments of the last hundred years.
