Location & Travel

Travel to Lisbon:

Lisbon is easy to get to. It is a short flight away from most European cities, and is just as easily accessible by road, railway or sea.

How to get to Lisbon:

By Plane

Lisbon International Airport, 7 km from the city centre, has daily flights to and from all major cities in Europe and the world. The Portuguese airline TAP-Air Portugal, as well as major international airlines, fly to and from Lisbon.

By Car

The A1 highway extends from Porto (north) to Lisboa. The A8 links Lisboa to the northwest. The A9, Lisboa’s outer ring-road connects the A1, A8 and the A5, which links Lisboa to the Estoril Coast (25 kms west of Lisboa). The A2 highway, and the A12 links the Algarve (south) to Lisboa.

Driving times to Lisboa:

From Porto (North of Portugal) – 3 hours
From Faro – Algarve (South of Portugal) – 3 hours
From Madrid – 6 hours

All motor vehicles drive on the right. Unless otherwise indicated, vehicles approaching from the right have priority at junctions. Seatbelts are obligatory. The law is strict regarding drinking and driving. The maximum speed in towns is 50 km/h, and 90 and 120 km/h on main roads and highways respectively. Petrol stations are open from 07:00 am to 08:00 pm, and on highways, service stations are open 24 hours a day.

By Train

Scores of national and international trains arrive into Lisboa’s stations every day. In addition to the terminal station "Santa Apolónia", the city has built the new station "Gare do Oriente", which opened in 1998 and is adjacent to the "Parque das Nações" (former Expo site). Both stations have convenient and direct bus or underground connections to the city centre. The "Sud Express" connects Lisboa to Madrid daily as well as to Paris (through Madrid). By Taxi

There are two taxi stands within the airport perimeter, one at arrivals and another at departures. You can get more info and purchase a Taxi Voucher at the Tourism Information Counter in the airport's Arrivals Hall.
