Enrique García-España Monsonís was born in Valencia (Spain). He got his graduation in Chemistry from the University of Valencia in June 1977. After a period working in a private industry he returned to the University and performed the Ph.D. that defended in October 1984. He was a Postdoctoral Fellowship with the group of Professor Piero Paoletti at the University of Florence. Since November 2000 he is full professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Valencia.
His research interest focuses on the Supramolecular Chemistry of polyamine receptors with particular emphasis on their interaction with metal ions and anions of biological and environmental relevance. Since 1985 he is the scientific leader of the research group of Supramolecular Chemistry at the University of Valencia. His research interests cover enzyme mimicking, building of molecular probes for recognitvion of species of biomedical or environmental relevance, preparation of modified nanoparticles and development of new therapeutic agents. He has co-edited along with Profs. Kristin Bowman-James (Lawrence, Kansas) and Antonio Bianchi (Florence) the books “Supramolecular Chemistry of Anions”, Wiley-VCH 1997 and “Anion Coordination Chemistry” Wiley-VCH 2012. He has also co-authored with Profs. Faus and Moratal a book on Bioinorganic Chemistry, Síntesis, 2003. Currently he is the president of the European Group of Thermodynamics of Metal Complexes. Enrique García-España has co-supervised 20 PhD Thesis and co-authored over 250 scientific papers: In 2010 he was awarded with the Inorganic Chemistry prize of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry.
