Isabel Correia graduated in 1997 in Chemical Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) and completed her PhD in 2003 also at IST. From 2003 to 2008 she did postdoctoral research in TuDelft, Centro de Química Estrutural (CQE, IST) and Imperial College. In 2008, she received an Assistant Researcher position under Ciência2007 Program and in 2013 an Investigador FCT Principal Researcher contract to develop her research in CQE, IST. She was awarded the scientific direction of two FCT projects and co-authored 82 publications, 4 book chapters, 2 proceedings with scientific refereeing and 14 conference proceedings. Her current H index is 26. Her research interests are mainly in the areas of Bioinorganic Chemistry and Coordination Chemistry, in which she has been demonstrating the advantages of metal complexes in the design of new agents with improved drug performance. She developed potentially useful prodrugs based on Cu, V, Zn, Ru and Fe metal complexes and evaluated their properties, their cytotoxicity and their ability to target nucleic acids and transport proteins
