Daniel L. Cadet got his Master in 1973 at Ecole Normale Supérieure/Ulm and his PhD in Physics in 1980 at Ecole Polytechnique. After several years at the French Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) as an Associated Researcher he moved to the US to take a Faculty Position at the Department of Meteorology at Florida State University. He came back to France in 1985 to take up a Senior Researcher position at CNRS while teaching at several universities (Paris 6, Toulouse and Clermont-Ferrand). Between 1990 and 2001 he was successively the Deputy-Director of the CNRS “Sciences of the Universe” Department and the CNRS Director for International Affairs. In 2001, he joined ALSTOM Transport as the Vice-President for External Affairs at the TECHNICAL Directorate. In April 2007, he was awarded the diploma of Doctor Honoris Causa from the Transport University in Sofia (Bulgaria).

During the last two decades, Daniel L. Cadet has participated to a large number of Research Policy Groups: member or chairing national and European committees e.g. 1997-99 : First Chairman of the European Marine Board. 1998-2001: Member of the Executive Board of ESF (European Science Foundation). D. L. Cadet is the Chairman of the Energy Sectorial Committee at the French Agence Nationale de la Recherche. Within ALSTOM Transport, he is in charge of : Managing the strategy on External funding of Proposals to National (all countries) and European Research Organizations; Developing relationships with public ( universities) and private (industries) research centers worldwide; Scouting of R&D Public and Private research centres worldwide to detect innovations in the frame of the ASTER Capital Investment fund.
